Money to be used to strengthen wildfire prevention
HARRISBURG – To bolster public safety in the region, Rep. Robert Leadbeter (R-Columbia) announced Millville Community Fire Company is the beneficiary of $3,590 in grant funding to strengthen wildfire prevention. The money may be used for purchasing critical wildfire suppression equipment, protective gear, communications tools and training.
“When citizens run away from danger, our firefighters run toward it,” said Leadbeter. “Their bravery reflects a selfless commitment to protecting the places we call home. It’s important to ensure they have the resources available to do their jobs safely and effectively. By investing in wildfire prevention tools, we can safeguard our region now and for generations to come.”
Grants were awarded on a 50/50 cost-share basis to fire companies serving rural communities and municipalities with fewer than 10,000 residents. Millville Community Fire Company is one of 114 volunteer fire companies that received a portion of the $905,846 set aside for wildfire protection.
