Leadbeter, Culver Announce Funding for Local Projects

HARRISBURG –Rep. Robert Leadbeter (R-Columbia) and Sen. Lynda Schlegel Culver (R-Columbia/Luzerne/Montour/Northumberland/Snyder) today announced more than $1.09 million in Local Share Account (LSA) grants from the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) for projects throughout the 109th Legislative District.

Act 71 of 2004 provides for the distribution of LSA gaming revenues through the CFA to support projects of public interest within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

“Bringing these critical resources back to Columbia County is about making a real difference in the communities we call home,” said Leadbeter. “These investments will go a long way toward addressing local needs, strengthening our communities and improving the quality of life for residents, families and seniors.”

“These grants will help local communities move forward with important projects while reducing the financial burden on municipal budgets and taxpayers,” Culver said. “I appreciate the work our local officials and community organizations put into identifying these needs, and I’m thankful for the opportunity to work with our House colleagues to support investments that will make a difference for the people we serve.”

Those receiving grants are:

• Berwick Borough – $266,654 to purchase and upfit three police vehicles.
• Briar Creek Borough – $39,046 to expand the concession stand at the Berwick Area Swimming Pool.
• Catawissa Borough – $59,306 to purchase and install a double-sided informational electronic message sign outside the borough building.
• Catawissa Borough – $92,492 to replace a police vehicle and upfit it.
• Catawissa Borough Municipal Authority – $58,984 to purchase a backhoe loader tractor.
• Catawissa Borough Municipal Authority – $76,610 to replace the roof on Reservoir 2 to ensure potable water remains safe before entering the distribution system.
• Columbia County – $250,000 to assist with the cost of a flood mitigation improvement project along Fishing Creek at the western edge of Bloomsburg.
• DRIVE – $62,548 to purchase a passenger van for the Salvation Army Berwick Corps to meet critical community needs.
• Fishing Creek Township – $67,200 to renovate the municipal building.
• Orange Township – $51,062 to decommission a wastewater treatment plant.
• Orangeville Borough – $75,000 to replace a backhoe.
